Our Best Friends Spreading Peace

This time last year, I was blessed to have visited the Best Friends Animal Society out in Kanab, UT...right smack dab in the middle of red rock country. The sanctuary sits on 33,000 beautiful acres and provides love and care to about 2,000 rescued animals on any given day. They care for animals (cats, dogs, horses, bunnies, and more) who've been through some really rough situations in life, but now are getting the necessary physical and emotional rehabilitation, in addition to invaluable social skills (!!) to then get adopted into loving homes. I think they are doing phenomenal, commendable, heart-centered work on behalf of our animal friends, while also serving to bring more peace and harmony to the planet as a whole! http://www.bestfriends.org/ Maybe you've been following some of their stories on "DogTown" featured on the National Georgraphic Channel? I watched nearly all the episodes on their Christmas eve marathon. You are sure to fall in love with the animals, and their caregivers!

This magical, heart-opening place made such an impression me that when I was recently asked to fill-in and guest host on the Dr. Pat radio show, I knew I wanted to interview the sanctuary's CEO, Paul Berry. I was thrilled that he was available and said yes! Please check out my interview with Paul of the Best Friends Animal Society. It's one of my favorite interviews, and most important topics for our furry friends. Paul and I agree - life is all about the love and compassion toward all beings. Here's the link to the show: http://www.thedrpatshow.com/guests.php?guest=465 Enjoy!
And, please join me with a membership to Best Friends for you --and a friend in the new year. Like me, I'm sure you will love following the animals' heart-warming stories, and connect with their inspiration and hope. They are true teachers of spirit.

Peace & happy holidays to you and yours,
Julie

I Know Nothing, That's For Certain

What an exciting time to be alive! I watched the U.S. elections with great interest, as did the world. I felt the collective energy and exhilaration of the "victory speech", and tremendous hope for a "changed" U.S., and a more unified world.

On one's spiritual journey, it's interesting as one "wakes up" from this dream we call reality. Finding the balance between knowing, feeling, and being the "ONENESS", and yet fully participating in life and all its details -- well, that can be a bit of a dance.

As I am comforting clients and friends who are in financial despair right now, I am also watching the tremendous hope they've put in one man (with his host of support, of course) elected to the president's office. I offer a gentle reminder - as this is undoubtedly and undeniably a powerful time of transformation as a people, and a planet. This is bringing much of what we have left to heal to the surface for us to acknowledge and love. These times point out the many ways we can love and accept ourselves and others more deeply.

Anything appearing as form comes and goes. We know that most everything in form has the potential to disappoint us when we hold it too tight or up too high, place expectations on it, or try to fix or change it.

I am aware, and perhaps you have this knowing too, that what I am sure I know in this life is that "I Don't Know." I don't how our seemingly broken systems will get fixed. I don't know how things will turn out on a day-to-day basis for myself or anyone else.

Sure, I have an intuitive sense of life, I know my intentions, but when it really comes down to it...I don't know. Even in just admitting that to ourselves releases some of the "holding energy," as I call it. It relinquishes the control only the ego thinks it has.

And in that letting go, in that realization, in that detachment from the outcome we can only imagine in our minds at a future time, but really don't know - THAT is where the ease is, the grace is, the flow, the peace we crave. We know the peace is always there, and even say sometimes "underneath it all." But, when we give our full attention and awareness to it, it can be the PEACE that permeates everything in our lives.

Peace can be what leads the way.

In love & peace,
Julie

Loving the Ego

Matt and I always share our thoughts with one another… we shine the light of awareness on the ebb and flow of thought, and to be conscious of what we are accepting and loving next.

So, I had a thought today, and I’d love to share it with you.

As we know, the ego is not our enemy, to be pushed away, or resisted. It’s helpful in getting certain tasks done in life, and it always thinks it is an essential part of our lives by being on the look out for potential “problems” and warning of dangers. However, today, it occurred to me that the ego is more like an old friend, but one we aren’t going to necessarily be hanging around with anymore.

It’s the friend that still lives on the block and in the neighborhood, but you just don’t go over to its house anymore to play. It’s a friend that’s still in your address book, but you no longer feel the pull to call or email.

Loving the spaciousness in that,
Julie

Finding Peace in Turbulent Times

In the latest article on our web site: TrueDivineNature.com, there's a great article we just posted in the teaching area called "Finding Peace in Turbulent Times."

In Matt Kahn's writings, he says "notice what in life we resist, acknowledge the resistance, and bless what manifestation has brought such insight into awareness. In this way, the seemingly "negative" news becomes a true spiritual practice of blessing what you see, no matter how it is perceived or presented."

I was reflecting on this. I especially resonate with the article's point about not having to avoid the news. And, if one does avoid the news, (or anything else we might view as negative or even "lower vibration") it doesn't mean that makes any person "more spiritual" than the next.

I don't think life is about having to avoid anything....it's what we do with what we take in through our senses. It's what we do with the news inside of our heads. What stories do we create? Do we react in fear or stress, or build a new belief structure that makes us more right than someone else?

Personally, I know when I take a walk in the woods and listen to the birds' songs, everything seems right in the entire Universe. That's easy. When I do consciously choose to tune in to the media to see what perspectives are floating around out there, it IS a great opportunity to take some deep breaths and bless all that I see. I can be peaceful in both situations by choice, and definitely without repressing any emotions. I can be empathetic and emotional if I wish.

What's going on or not going on in the world right now can be a moment of pause for us, and a chance to practice gratitude for all that we have in our lives - for all the people and situations up to this point, and whatever is to come our way.

Some people are calling this time in history "tumultuous," "chaotic," or "a crisis." Others are doing just great. In fact, this week, I just received two notices of two new stores opening up and having grand opening celebrations. They're expanding. Perhaps that is what I will call this time in history......it is a "Grand Opening!" The question is, are we going to complain in the corner about how crowded the store is, or about running out of hors d'oeuvres, or are we going to grab a balloon and cheer as we run through the aisles --celebrating the abundance of all that is?

Every moment of this journey is a living meditation. Bless us one and all!

Namaste,

Yum-O!

My "soul sweetie," Matt Kahn and I just returned from three days in Portland, OR at a chocolate festival. We enjoyed the decadent, savory, and exotic chocolates. We were enchanted by the smooth and creamy textures, the warm melty chocolate, and the people who expressed their love of life, self and others through such a delicious medium!

I came home with a big chocolate smile on my face and a little something in my heart to share with you. I call it:

It's A Sweet Life
For me, “a sweet life” definitely would include sweets. I’ve always said, if my body could survive it, I’d live off yam tempura, donuts, and pretty much chocolate everything else. Most of the time, though, I’m living in moderation to maintain internal balance and keep my skin and digestive system happy and humming along.

Having gone through intense food elimination diets, low glycemic diets, no sugar regimens, and anti-inflammatory adventures, I found that over time, my body and my mind redefined “sweet.”

A mere week with no sugars, and suddenly, a bite of peanut butter, or a strawberry, became almost too much.

Additionally, I found that as I gave my body a rest from sweet treats, I naturally wanted to exercise more (psychologically, it somehow makes sense to accompany all those clean proteins and veggies with getting in shape). So, I exercised. I stepped away from the computer, got out in nature more often, and breathed in some fresh air.

My mind and tastebuds were in cahoots though, working hard to catch up with this new plan, and teased me with cravings. I noticed the thoughts I had about my desires for sugary foods, felt them run through my body, thanked them for being an echo of what was once true, and reminded myself how I to be in this moment and enjoy something “sweet” without added calories or sugar.

I then looked around. I noticed a new mother giggling with her baby. I laughed too, and said to myself, “Awww, how sweet.” I filled myself up with deep appreciation for being able to witness such a precious moment.

I usually find that I experience “a sweet life” when I express myself through the joy I feel through dance, singing, creating art, or spreading my well wishes around the globe. A peaceful prayer opens my heart and puts a smile on my face, not to mention the waves of grace that go out to uplift the planet from such an act of love and simplicity.

With gentle awareness, noticing the breezy palms, the fragrance of summer lilacs and gardenias, or bees on the clover, brings me right into the present moment where I rediscover and reaffirm the power of now. There is no longing for a past sweet moment, or for future sweet melodies, I am too busy being immersed in this one sweet, glorious moment filled with more aliveness than I can ever imagine. It captures and holds all my attention.

When “the one” in me realizes I’ve been captured, I delightfully surrender even more deeply and give myself fully to the moment. I fall headlong into a vat of sweetness that may look like a child being carried over her father’s shoulder and making goofy faces at me at the store. Or, it may be cleverly disguised as a late night search of the internet only to stumble upon someone’s surprise kind comment about my work in their blog. Ah, that sweet connection. Or, perhaps it’s a full moon night with the smell of sweet, freshly mowed grass from the neighborhood lawns.

Each moment reminds me to fully feel the awe of the mysteriousness of how life flows, and how all our puzzle pieces fit together in beautiful, divine perfection.

As I empty myself of cravings, I find there is even more space to allow for the sweet bliss of life. I buy chocolate lip balm and lick my lips. I light a chocolate soy candle, take a full, slow breath, and exhale, “Yummmmmm.” I take a soul-nourishing bath with chocolate soap and a triple chocolate body scrub.

The smell is delicious; the textures are divine. My inner world is peaceful and quiet. The stillness is sweet….no pushing, no pulling, no trying, no achieving, no go-getting. The “wantings” seems to be on vacation. I’m aware they may come and go, and I’m okay with it.

So, how can you see that what you are reading is not just my story, it is not merely someone else’s life experience, but rather, an invitation for you to discover what sweetness is alive within you, and in this life that you are perceiving as your reality?

How can you accept this moment just as it shows up, and find something sweet and pure in it to appreciate, or even love? Can you love life when it’s sticky and gooey, when you’ve left your favorite gourmet chocolate bar in the trunk of your car all day and it’s now a melted mess, or when it has crunch and you really wanted smooth and creamy?

Try it out with a piece of rich, dark chocolate and see for yourself how deeply present you can be in “the now.” Allow a moment with chocolate to be a remarkably yummy way to quiet your mind and feed your soul. It’s a treat that invites your inner child to giggle, while your heart blossoms open.

With gentle awareness, and a welcome absence of commentary, what naturally arises for you in this space of openness? Perhaps you notice a sense of greater relaxation, spaciousness, or gratitude begins to surface. Or, perhaps with chocolate as your guide, as a wise and seemingly unexpected teacher of consciousness, you dive into the realization that we all are like delicious pieces of chocolate that have especially sweet centers. At our core, we too, are sweet.

Underneath our layers of conditioning, the walls, defenses, masks, roles, and our ego’s endless posturing, we’re really just sweet people who mean well, and want goodness, love, and compassion for every living being on the planet. Beyond our personalities and all the forms within and around us, we can melt into the sweet, pure, radiant light of our peaceful, formless, true divine nature. We can, in one simple, decadent moment, be reminded and awakened to the peace that always rests within us.

John Lennon said it so well, “Imagine all the people, living life in peace…”

You may say I’m a dreamer. But I KNOW, I’m not the only one. Join me, won’t you? Let us dream, live, laugh, and love out loud together in peace (with some chocolate on our lips).

New Musings from the Depths of Silence

Note: All previous postings were published on another blog from June-August of 2008. After a series of technical adventures, I moved everything over here to my new Blogger blog. Welcome!

Here are some of my latest musings that came out of last weekend's silent retreat. Stillness and silence are such incredible gifts for deepening the relationship we have with ourselves and our reality.

In joy & love,
Julie

8/24/08
We think we need to collect, gather and add to the “me,”
When really, to awaken the peace within…clearing the clutter and debris,
To clearly see….
The truest me….
and simply BE.

8/24/08
In chasing the discovery
of the true divine nature within me,
I trip and fall into the void of no-thing
And, to my surprise, that’s when my dreams begin to take wing.

8/23/08
When you do not speak, and I do not speak, it is then, in that silence, that we genuinely meet for the first time.

8/23/08
In that space beyond words, our hearts are united. Noticed or unnoticed, love cracks us open, and timelessness tumbles out. Essence emanates from all corners of the universe, blanketing our world with softness, comfort, and care.

8/23/08
It is the beauty in me that recognizes the beauty in you.

8/23/08
When recognition and knowing collide, beauty explodes. Its lovebeads are strung across the universe for all to enjoy.

8/23/08
When recognition and knowing collide, beauty explodes….it’s shrapnel pierces the veil of the “I am not,” and the everything dissolves into the nothing, as it’s always been.

8/23/08
The greatness in me, is the same as in you. In a moment of forgetting this, my eyes are closed and my heart is cold.

8/23/08
My uniqueness and originality are not my own at all. They’re God’s clever brilliance shining through me as a painted canvas, or an encore performance – for the audience of one (and all) to appreciate and cheer.

A Beautiful Vision

(photo of water sparkles at Cannon Beach, OR coast)

I had a vision the other day. I remember seeing a beautiful lake on a bright, sunshiney day. It wasn't so bright that you had to shield your eyes from the glare off the water, it was just right to stand in the shade and just take in the view of the whole lake with my eyes.I noticed how pretty the sparkles were of the light reflecting off the water. Then, came a voice with messages for me. I was a little surprised, but it felt so lovely that I opened up all my senses to truly LISTEN.

I heard, "WE are the sparkles on the lake....all beautiful and spectacular in our own ways, and yet no one shines brighter than another. We all equally bring our light to the lake.”

I felt the wisdom and thought about we spend so much energy in our lives striving to achieve, to stand out, to be better, to be the best, when really, we can just enjoy living life doing whatever brings us joy, and knowing that we ALL are shining lights. We ALL are already “the best.” We all ARE a sparkling part of the whole of this planet, of this Universe. No sparkle is MORE sparkly than the next one and tries to out-do it. It simply shines.

How do you perfect Spirit?

I felt even more relief, and any self-imposed pressure lift off and fall away with this reminder and deeper knowing. It was a nice little gem that popped into my day to remind me (us) to be easy with ourselves on this path of playing out these roles as humans in this life…. “Together As ONE.”

Later, as I was preparing the photo of sparkles I took at the beach, I took a closer look at the them. Suddenly, some of them reminded me of my biology class in high school where Mr. Berg taught us about chromosomes. I thought, how funny, (that like always), nature is just doing what it does….reflecting the beautiful cosmos inside of our bodies.

(human chromosomes)

In joy & gratitude for all our *sparkliness*,

Julie

Peaceful Chocolatey Goodness

My soul partner (spiritual teacher and intuitive healer, Matt Kahn) and I are thoroughly enjoying spreading the love and peace in the world with our brand new CD "The Chocolate Meditation - Being One with the Sweetness of Life."

This latest project came out of a desire to actually witness world peace in our lifetime. This is both our deepest prayer and the offering we wish to leave behind for future generations. We both agreed that if each person began discovering the true nature of their being, not just as something reserved for Buddhas, monks or saints, but as the true reality offered to each individual to live from, we would all begin to offer our greatest contribution to the peace of humanity right now.

This arising "peace of being" became the gift we realized needed to be delivered, but we wanted it to be in a way that would be universal in understanding, and simple in experience.

We began thinking of times in our lives when we felt this arising peace of being without the spiritual seeker in us looking for it, and we both remembered vivid memories as children eating a delicious piece of chocolate, and how nothing else seemed to matter in those delicious moments.

We joked about those memories being the first time we experienced true meditation without even knowing it, and all of a sudden - it clicked!

We could teach the world how to live in peace and bring humanity together through the joy of chocolate. The Chocolate Meditation was instantly born, not as a literal interpretation of having people find peace by eating more chocolate, but by discovering the radiant stillness of inner peace, by imagining yourself as innocent as a child enjoying a piece of chocolate. It's chocolate covered presence, if you will. It's the "power of now" that has the power to unite the world as one.

People always ask us how they can continuously live in the expanded space of presence they experience in sessions or at our events. As The Chocolate Meditation evolved, we knew we had something special to offer, not only as our contribution to world peace, but as an invitation to allow the spiritual journey to become as fun, light-hearted and joyful as it is actually meant to be!

Also included on The Chocolate Meditation CD, is a powerful experience of loving-kindness and global gratitude. This is important, so as one discovers the profound space of inner peace in the first track of the chocolate meditation, the second track was designed to allow that peace to radiate throughout the world every time you listen.

After I came out of the studio from recording both meditations, having combined the best of Matt's profoundly peaceful, loving, timeless teachings with the healing frequencies delivered through my voice, I knew I was a part of something extraordinarily special. I felt my best work had just been recorded for the benefit of the world I lovingly embrace in my heart.

Matt and I listened to these two meditations and allowed ourselves to be guided to test the experience. Each time, we became extremely giddy with the excitement of sharing it with the world it was meant to inspire.

[Note: --> Many of you may know my work as the voice and creator of the guided imagery CDs for T. Harv Eker's Peak Potentials Training programs. From living with more inner peace, to manifesting financial abundance, hundreds of thousands of these CDs have gone way beyond what I ever imagined, as they reach into the world and help make it a more harmonious place for us all!]

“The Chocolate Meditation” has been created to assist the awakening of humanity.

Just recently off the presses, we're already hearing how it's transforming so many lives across the globe in such an immediate way. We've already received hundreds of enthusiastic phone calls and emails telling us how it's not only a heart-opening and peaceful way to live in an expanded state of consciousness, but is also a tool to sleep better, and has even helped relationships grow into deeper spaces of love. And, it's even been assisting people to actually lose weight! How crazy-wonderful is that?

Peacemakers ranging from the U.S. to Israel, Australia, Canada, the U.K., Hong Kong, and Malaysia, are snapping it up and getting into the joy of chocolate by buying this CD 20 to 100 at a time, and offering them as instruments of peace to everyone they know. Wow!

We are so incredibly grateful, because 100% of the proceeds from the sales of The Chocolate Meditation, is going toward a monumental peace project that is sending Matt and I across the country to offer satsang and healing meditation events to universities, churches, yoga studios, shelters, hospitals, and even prisons, as we help create a bridge of ONENESS that brings the world together.

After all, it is only together, that we shall create the world we wish to see and awaken the true divine nature that peacefully rests in the space of all. Blessed be!

For Reflection
How are you a peacemaker in your life, and for those around you? In what ways are you creating and enjoying contributing to a peaceful planet? Where could you have even MORE peace in your life? What step will you take in the next moment to BE the peace that you already are?

Peace, love & the joy of chocolate,

Big Joy!

Welcome to my very first foray into the blogging world! I have been reading everyone else's blogs for so long now....all those great juicy ones out there on food, living green, and creating big, happy lives. I never once imagined having my own. Until today!

For some unnamed, unknown, creative reason, I caught the blog inspiration today. Goodness, what's next, an iPod, a Blackberry, or GPS in my car? The theme of today has been -- "How can I bring more JOY into today? "Why more joy? Well, first off, because it feels good in the body. Secondly, it creates a more peaceful way of moving through everything from the seemingly mundane "errands", to the exciting chart-topping successes!

Joy, for me, reduces any stress, boosts my immune system, and definitely is a precursor to me sharing smiles and more love with those around me. Quite often it's my inner child who helps me answer questions like that.

So, today, I took a walk in nature (sooooo rejuvenating and heart-opening) because it's finally looking and feeling like spring in beautiful Seattle, I spent some time bouncing on my rebounder, and enjoyed my favorite latest find - 1/2 of a wheat-free, gluten-free muffin from our local gluten-free bakery, Haley's Corner Bakery. The chocolate chip pumpkin one is OUT OF THIS WORLD! It inspires both giggles and moans, in my book! How do YOU get into JOY and express it in the world?
